Young People Today

Haruna, I asked you to sweep the floor three times today! You are beginning to grow wings right?
Do these saying sound familiar?

“Young people aren’t what they used to be.
They no longer obey their parents.
Our young people now love luxury.

They have bad manners, contempt for authority,
and disrespect for older people.
Children these days are tyrants.
They contradict their parents,
chatter before company,
gobble their food and tyrannize their teachers.”

The first quotation comes from a letter written in Egypt 3000 years ago and the second from Socrates 500 years before Christ.

You may sometimes hear older people talking sadly about the young people of today.  That can be difficult because you are one of them.  Take encouragement from those old sayings.  Young people are the same as they always have been.  Teenagers are terrific!

A Guide for Me

But, we are more likely to succeed in life’s adventures if we have someone to guide, protect and help us.  The song below was written by a king who learnt about life when he was a shepherd boy.  He used to take his father’s sheep out into the bush and the hills to graze.  He was away for many days at a time and learnt to love the quietness and the beauty of the country and of the stars at night.  He also had all sorts of adventures with lions and bears and other animals that wanted to attack his sheep.

The Lord is my shepherd,
I shall lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul.

He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will far no evil, for you are with me;

Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the forever.
King David – Psalm 23

Isn’t it amazing that God himself cares about each one of us? If you like singing here is a song you will enjoy.

God does love us but he does not force us to love and obey him.  No, he waits for each one of us to ask him to be our Shepherd and then to listen to him and obey his instructions.  So the first sentence in Psalm 23 is important.  “The Lord is MY shepherd”.  Can you say that “MY”? If you can, you can look forward confidently to the adventures ahead of you.

Guys & Girls: Who am I?

Guys & Girls: Who am I?: Each day, after am finish dressing up, I do some glancing at the plane mirror by the side of the wall in my simply furnished room. I do...

Who am I?

Each day, after finish dressing up, I do some glancing at the plane mirror by the side of the wall in my simply furnished room. I do this always for the reason best expressed in my mind rather than spoken. This mirror, with the amount of light rays shining on it and its great size is capable of reflecting from my hair to the nails on my toes when I stand at an exact distance to glance.

The mirror is so clear that it reflects the newly styled coloured dress I got from Jumia, brings out my curves as a young woman, my pink lips and Brazilian hair inclusively.

My mirror is so unique that is gives the real image of the one standing in its front. As unique as this mirror is, it is still defective; incapable of revealing the real me- the one the inside me. It lacks the capacity to truly reflect who I truly am. It can show my outward appearance, my outward beauty, but haven’t been able to answer one question that bulges my heart; the question of who am i?

No matter how closely I glance, how long I spend gazing, how thoroughly I clean the surface, it can’t! I am with many friends, countless in school, others in groups and few as close friends; they seem to know me well. They call me sweet names like; ‘bestie’, school friend, pen friend, girlfriend, good friend, dearie, family friend, they also flirt around with me, some even scorn me, Still none can tell me who I am!

My dad is a unique man, who provides and cares for his children, he calls me “my apple” but then he hasn’t told me who I am, I doubt if he even knows, if he does, he wouldn’t hid it from me. How about mum, in whose hand I grew intimately, gazed closed into her eyes for years while sucking her breast. She desires to see her daughter grow more beautiful by the day, but she haven’t shown me who I am through those eye contacts in upbringing.

In the same vein, as I groove the social media every now and then, I see so many amazing celebrities with different styles, each popping up the screen of my big phone. Each of whom I found interesting and followed up. “Being one of them would make me feel better” I muttered to myself always. Then I can’t help it. A voice tells me, I am not anyone of them. Yes a voice! The voice which usually tells me that I am different! That same voice gets me uncomfortable whenever I tried to compare myself with my friends.
Though I know that I am different, yet I can’t affirm it, i know I have a different outlook, a different DNA, an entirely incomparable fingerprint in the whole world! I still need to answer the questions; who am i? Why am I here on earth? What am I living for? These are questions to ponder; questions to diligently seek answers to individually, not from the image reflected by the mirror, not from friends’ comments, not even from dad or mum, but from the word of God, from God the creator; the master planner who planned our lives individually and uniquely. 1 peter 2:9-12.

I’ve come to discover that the purpose of God for my life is in His word, the more of the His word I know the better understanding of myself I will have.
Do you know who you are?

MORE THAN A SURPRISE VISIT

BY Aiyegbusi Joan Anuoluwa

Ken and Clara just started dating, Clara had never been to Ken’s place though she knew His address, she wanted to do something spontaneous and exciting so she decided to pay Ken a surprise visit. The visit left a resounding effect on Clara as pertaining to her personality and her Date. When she got there, Guess what he saw? Did you just say another girl? No! Far from it! She saw something that made her reconsider her choice of dating Ken.

Clara 's parents were both medical doctors , she was raised to be clean and maintained personal hygiene, Clara values cleanliness so much that that she views almost everything through the eyes of cleanliness. Ken on the other hand was raised as the only Son of his parents; he was never used to house cleanliness since they had maids to handle house work. Now that Ken is on His own, He doesn't even know he should sweep his house.  The day Clara paid Ken a visit; Ken had not swept his room in for a whole week. You can imagine the scenario Clara met.  After that visit, Clara asked herself if she was ready to marry and live with that kind of man for the rest of her life.

The moment you become born again, you are in a relationship with Jesus, but He doesn't just pay you visit, He stays with you. Ensure to be clean (Holy) at all times. No matter how holy you were, or you are. Strive for more. No matter how you swept your house yesterday, you have to sweep it today. Why? Dirt is always settling on surfaces, it doesn't care about how thoroughly you cleaned yesterday, it will come again and to remain clean, you must clean again and again.

When last did you clean up before God? More than Clara, He esteems cleanliness; just as you want a clean and hygienic spouse, God wants the same from us as well. The world will never stop attempts to pollute our minds just as dirt will always come despite how well you cleaned; we must consciously make effort to come before God every day for purification and sanctification; presenting ourselves as a pleasant fragrance to God, our lover. If you stay away from God, more worldly dirt will continue to accumulate in your life until God cannot even look at you again; for He cannot behold iniquity.
Don't wait until it gets that bad!
